Chris Brown's BET Performance Joins List Of Greatest Pop-Culture Crying Fits

Halle Berry, Kelly Clarkson, Justin Timberlake and more have had their moments.
By Kyle Anderson

Despite the triumphant TV returns of Kanye West, T.I. and El DeBarge at Sunday night's 2010 BET Awards, the big headline from the show was Chris Brown's moving tribute to late superstar Michael Jackson. Brown flawlessly executed all of Jackson's most classic dance moves (including a scorching moonwalk), but when it came time to lend his voice to Jackson's "Man in the Mirror," Brown broke down in tears and could not sing, apparently overwhelmed by the emotion of the situation.

Crying in public is hardly a new phenomenon in the world of popular culture. Brown joins the list of some of the biggest stars in the world who have also broken down on television.

Halle Berry When Berry won the Oscar for Best Actress at the 74th Annual Academy Awards in 2002 (for her work in "Monster's Ball"), she became the first African-American woman to take home the prize. That, combined with the overwhelming experience that was making the emotionally-charged "Monster's Ball" and the huge standing ovation she received, threw Berry into hysterics during her acceptance speech. "This moment is so much bigger than me," she said.

Kelly Clarkson When Kelly Clarkson won the very first season of "American Idol," she was initially in a state of shock. Unable to express how she was feeling to the television audience who voted her the victor over Justin Guarini, she moved on to her performance of "A Moment Like This." When she hit the lyric, "I can't believe it's happening to me," she finally broke. She managed to get through the song, but to continuously apologized for her emotion.

Justin Timberlake Ashton Kutcher's hit MTV show "Punked" certainly pushed a lot of his famous friends to the brink, but few had a reaction like Timberlake. When Kutcher's crew of actors pretended to be federal officers seizing most of his possessions for failure to pay back taxes, Timberlake flipped out and wept. Usually, Kutcher's reveal at the end of the episode throws the celebrity in question into laughing jags or fits of anger, but Timberlake was clearly just filled with relief.

Tonya Harding Athletes cry all the time, but it's usually because of the overwhelming thrill of victory or the agony of bitter defeat. Rarely do they weep during a particular competition, but that's exactly what Harding did at the 1994 Winter Olympics. After dealing with her connection to the attack on fellow skater Nancy Kerrigan in the run-up to the games, Harding took the ice only to realize that a lace on one of her skates had broken. In between sobs, she pleaded with the judges to allow her to get new laces and start over. They allowed it, though Harding still only finished eighth.

Crystal Bowersox The season nine "American Idol" runner-up had an extremely emotional run to the finals (including a harrowing health scare), but it took merely the presence of her father and a particularly heartfelt song to push her to tears. Bowersox slipped a handful of sobs into her performance of Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions' "People Get Ready" during Inspirational Week on the show. It was one of the many performances that put Bowersox in the discussion of the best "Idol" contestants of all time.

Tracy Morgan The always unpredictable star of "Saturday Night Live" and "30 Rock" has had a tough life and a challenging career, but the mere mention of co-star Tina Fey sent Morgan on the crying train when he visited with Oprah Winfrey on an episode of her show back in April. "She's my friend. Tina is my friend. I love her," he told Winfrey as he was fighting back tears.

"Crying Girl" There are an awful lot of "American Idol" moments on this list, aren't there? Ashley Ferl gained notoriety during the show's sixth season not as a contestant but as a particularly emotional audience member. The 13-year-old Ferl was so taken with "Idol" contestant Sanjaya Malakar's take on the Kinks' "You Really Got Me" that she sobbed uncontrollably, earning herself a great deal of screen time and the privilege of becoming an Internet meme for a while.

Did we miss any? What is the best incident of celebrity crying? And what did you think of Brown's performance? Let us know in the comments!

Lindsay Lohan: Desperate to Stay in Rehab

The drama in her life is on-going, and now Lindsay Lohan is reportedly pleading to stay in rehab instead of going to jail while waiting for her October hearing.

According to a source who spoke with Radar Online, "Lindsay is still being assessed by her treatment team but the team is saying that she should spend at least 45 days getting in-patient treatment. It's going to take her body at least 30 days to get the substances out of her system.?

?Her body needs to do a lot of healing, and the doctors want to treat her after the remnants of the drug use have left her body. The real work begins after that has occurred, and that is when progress begins to happen."

Furthermore, the source added, "Lindsay is required to be at the hearing. She will be there. She will be escorted by at least one person from the rehab facility to make sure she doesn't stray. It's likely that a member of Lindsay's treatment team will also be called to testify. At that point, if Lindsay is making improvements, Lindsay's team would ask Judge Fox to not put her in jail at all, or defer her sentence until she is finished with her in-patient treatment."

Lindsay?s hearing is scheduled for October 22.

Will Ferrell Says Fan Outcry Hasn't Helped 'Anchorman 2' Chances

Actor tells MTV News the studio is 'indifferent to any sort of public outcry.'
By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Will Ferrell
Photo: MTV News

Covering the saga of "Anchorman 2" is kind of like viewing Panda Watch in '70s-era San Diego: Not a whole lot happens, yet you can't look away.

Five months after MTV News broke the news that negotiations by Will Ferrell and "Anchorman" director Adam McKay with Paramount for a sequel to their 2004 comedy had collapsed, we're still waiting and watching, hoping for good news.

Earlier this month, a small nugget of good news seemed to come in the form of McKay's comment to Collider that fan outcry had helped in their push to get "Anchorman 2" made. Was Paramount closer to getting onboard? Not at all, Ferrell told us.

"Nope," he said at the Toronto International Film Festival promoting "Everything Must Go." "Paramount, which is owned by your parent company, Viacom — so maybe [chairman] Sumner [Redstone] can get involved here in this — but they seem indifferent to any sort of public outcry for this."

The sticking point all along has been an inability to agree on a budget. Ferrell and his co-stars — including Paul Rudd and Steve Carell — cut their salaries, but Paramount remained wary of green-lighting a sequel to a film that was hardly a blockbuster in theaters and only took off on DVD and cable.

" 'Austin Powers' didn't make a ton of money in its first go-round, and then it caught fire in the next one," McKay told us he'd argued.

But Paramount was not convinced, and the sequel collapsed. While McKay holds out hope that the studio might eventually reconsider, Ferrell seems convinced "Anchorman 2" is not to be.

"It's very flattering to us," he said of the fan support. "We love it, but apparently, they don't care."

Check out everything we've got on "Anchorman: The Legend of Run Burgundy."

Lady Gaga's Born This Way Is Her 'Freedom Album,' Producer Says

RedOne says the upcoming Born This Way is 'too good to talk about.'
By Jocelyn Vena

Why will Lady Gaga's forthcoming Born This Way album "piss people off"?

Gaga's main man, producer and songwriter RedOne, thinks it might be because the album is all about the artist's liberation. "I think it's more of her freedom album. It's like freedom this album ... it's her album!" he told MTV News.

But trying to squeeze any more details out of the "Bad Romance" producer proved difficult. He remained tight-lipped about details, mostly because he feels the album, which Gaga has noted will veer toward bitter and political, isn't ready for everyday talk just yet.

"To be honest with you, I think that this album that she's making is too precious to talk about. When it comes out you'll hear and you'll make your choice," he said. "I think you're gonna love it. But I think it's too precious for me to talk about it. It's crazy."

RedOne said that as far as he knows there will be no Beyoncé-type collaborations on Born This Way. But he reiterated that he's always stepping up his game with each album.

"I said with everything I do I want to shock people. Honestly, it's like whatever I do, I always want to shock people sonically, lyrically with the writer, anything that's gonna get the reaction," he said. "And so when it comes to her album, I mean honestly, I really think it's too precious, it's too good to talk about. I don't want to talk about it at all. I just want to save it. I'll let her talk about it. It's her. It's her presenting Gaga. I'm the producer, but she's the artist.

"Whatever happens later is going to happen," he said about which of his tracks might make the final cut. "I can't say I'm doing this or I'm doing that. It's a surprise. I want to leave it like that."

Lindsay Lohan Freed From Jail

Actress leaves prison after posting $300,000 bail.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

Photo: Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images

After spending less than a day in prison, Lindsay Lohan was released after posting $300,000 bail. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore told The Associated Press that the actress left jail around 11:40 p.m. Friday night.

Lohan was jailed Friday morning, a week after the actress admitted to failing a court-ordered drug test. Judge Elden Fox initially denied the troubled star bail and she was immediately taken into custody following her hearing. The move was reportedly designed to keep the actress in prison until her upcoming October 22 court date and reduce the chance of an early release due to overcrowding. However, Lohan's lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, later insisted her client was entitled to bail and a second judge, Patricia M. Schnegg, overturned Fox's ruling. Lohan is still due back in court next month.

TMZ reports that Lohan is required to wear a SCRAM bracelet and avoid venues where alcohol is the "chief item of sale." Lohan is familiar with the alcohol-monitoring device as she was outfitted with a SCRAM bracelet in May, which reportedly went off at an MTV Movie Awards afterparty.

After serving 13 days of a 90-day jail sentence and 23 days of court-ordered rehab, Lohan recently conceded that she was still grappling with her addiction issues.

"Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test and if I am asked, I am prepared to appear before judge Fox next week as a result," Lohan tweeted a week ago. "Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn't go away over night. I am working hard to overcome it and am taking positive steps forward every day. I am testing every single day and doing what I must do to prevent any mishaps in the future. ... This was certainly a setback for me but I am taking responsibility for my actions and I'm prepared to face the consequences."

Justin Bieber Joins Ranks Of Pop Stars With 'CSI' Cameos

Bieber's season-premiere debut follows guest turns by Diddy, Taylor Swift and more.
By Jocelyn Vena

Justin Bieber in "CSI"
Photo: CBS

Justin Bieber is making his "CSI" debut on Thursday night (September 23), and while it remains to be seen whether the teen idol can pull out an Emmy-worthy performance, his appearance on the show continues the series' tradition of casting marquee names for guest spots.

Taylor Swift got to live out her dream in March 2009, when she played Haley, a girl found dead outside of a motel. While Swift didn't have very many lines, the pop singer did display some chops onscreen and got to indulge her morbid acting fantasies.

"I've always joked around with my record label and my mom and everybody — all my friends know that my dream is to die on 'CSI,' " she said last year. "I've always wanted to be one of the characters on there that they're trying to figure out what happened to."

But not everyone plays the victim. When Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz made a cameo on the show in March 2009, they hit up the East Coast version of the show on "CSI: NY." The Wentzes went dark for their parts as Chester Byron and Lila Wickfield, playing a young couple entangled in the world of drug-dealing.

"It's easy to play passionate roles with the person you love," Wentz said about hooking up with his wife onscreen. "There's nothing weird about it when you love the person."

Diddy worked the opposite end of the legal spectrum when he was cast as a defense attorney on "CSI: Miami" in December 2008. Describing his character as a "nemesis" to David Caruso's he explained, "I wanted to keep on studying and learning; working with great actors, directors, great shows. I've never done a television drama. I've always wanted to play a lawyer. I didn't want to play, like, a rap artist or a criminal."

And that brings it back to Bieber, who'll make his first of two appearances this week as troubled kid Jason McCann on "CSI" (the second will air in February). He'll certainly be showing fans a side of him they haven't seen.

"He's a troubled young man, raised in the foster-care system, whose hard-luck life has left him scarred and angry," executive producer Carol Mendelsohn told MTV News last month. "When we first meet Jason, we meet him at a community center where he's giving a testimonial in honor of a man who takes Jason and his older brother in when they had no one else, and that man is now in jail and Jason's brother is out for revenge and looking for payback."

Britney Spears On Working With Lady Gaga: 'Anything's Possible'

Singer poses on manga-inspired Pop cover.
By James Dinh

Britney Spears on the cover of Pop
Photo: J-Pop

From schoolgirl to toxic temptress, Britney Spears has played many characters throughout the years. But the singer took a very different approach for her photo spread in the upcoming issue of the U.K.'s Pop magazine by channeling her inner manga character. In the issue, the pop princess dished about the possibilities of a Lady Gaga collaboration and working with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami for the anime-inspired cover.

Despite Gaga overthrowing Spears as the most-followed celebrity on Twitter, the singer had no hard feelings toward pop's newest sensation. "I'm a big fan of hers," she said when asked about working with Gaga. "Anything's possible!"

A collaboration between the pop stars doesn't seem out of the question, as Gaga's mega-hit "Telephone" duet with Beyoncé was originally offered to Spears.

Donning a white wedding dress and a veil with matching gloves, Spears innocently poses in a field of flowers on the cover. In another photo, the singer trades the dress for a leg-baring getup accessorized with a red backpack.

Spears' manga-style shoot was shot by Todd Cole with art direction from Takashi Murakami, who is often referred to as the "Andy Warhol of Japan." While the spread strays from the singer's typical styling, the pop star enjoyed working with the artist. "I loved working with Takashi," she said. "I especially liked how he took high-end fashion and incorporated it with Japanese manga."

The singer's tour to Japan was what originally piqued her interest in Japanese culture. "We looked at a lot of characters and artwork before we shot, so I could get a feel for what he was looking for," she explained. "I was in Japan on my past promo tour, and I loved it."

Editor in Chief Dasha Zhukova spoke to Style.com about the singer's Japanese treatment: "She's feminine, sassy, strong-willed, determined: all the things a great Pop icon should be. Couple that with some Japanese swimsuits and a Rodarte wedding gown, and I think she is pretty much Pop personified!"

Spears couldn't wait to share her excitement for her photo shoot with fans. The pop star took to Twitter, saying, "I just saw the photos for the first time and they are beautiful. Comes out Sept. 1st. Thanks @TakashiPom -- Britney."

Aside from gracing the cover of Pop magazine, the singer has already filmed a cameo for her "Glee" tribute episode and is working on completing the follow-up to 2008's Circus.

What do you think of Britney's manga-inspired photo shoot? Would you like to hear a Britney and Gaga collabo? Share your thoughts below!

Help Save-A-Pet!

I've mentioned this before, but my mom volunteers at Save-A-Pet, a no-kill animal shelter in Illinois. Like many charities, they're currently having financial difficulties and might have to close their doors unless they receive more donations. Here's a link to a message regarding their financial situation.
If you can donate anything—even just one dollar—it would be greatly appreciated. They've been around for almost 40 years and are currently home to almost 300 animals. Here are some photos I took last time I was there:
He was my favorite, Jax. I would take him home if I could, but he needs to be the only animal in the house.
All the cats stay in the same room and have "kitty condos."
"Meow! I like to cuddle!"
"Woof! I'm cute!"
"I also only have three legs, but I'm doing fine!"
Every dog gets to go outside and play every day.
Please help if you can! Thank you!

New Led Zeppelin On The Way? Jason Bonham Hints At 'Jam' Sessions With Jimmy Page -- But Not Robert Plant

Drummer admits he doesn't know what will come of 'new material.'By Chris Harris

Jason Bonham

Photo: Larry Marano/ Getty Images

On Friday morning, mere hours before he was due to take the stage with classic rockers Foreigner at Detroit's GM Renaissance Center, drummer Jason Bonham — the son of late Led Zeppelin kitman John Bonham — told Jim Johnson and Lynne Woodison of local rock station 94.7 WCSX that he'd be an ex-member of Foreigner as of September 1. But that's not the only thing he said.
Much to the delight of Led Zeppelin fans everywhere, Bonham revealed that he's been meeting up with Led Zep guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones in recent months and that they've been "trying to do some new material and writing."
It was the first time since Led Zeppelin announced they would re-form for a single performance (which happened late last year at London's O2 Arena, in honor of the late Ahmet Ertegün, who signed the band to Atlantic Records in 1969) that anyone connected to the band has confirmed publicly that new music could be on the horizon for the iconic rockers. While the bandmembers have stopped short of definitively ruling out such a reunion, singer Robert Plant insisted in the wake of last year's show that he intended to focus on promoting and touring behind his critically lauded album with bluegrass artist Alison Krauss, Raising Sand.
Not that Bonham knows what — if anything — will happen with the new material he's been working on with Page (who collaborated with pop singer Leona Lewis on an uneven version of Zep's "Whole Lotta Love" at the Olympic closing ceremonies in Beijing on Sunday night) and Jones. He said he just shows up and takes his seat behind the kit.
"I've been over [to England] a couple of times," Bonham said. "I've been working with Jimmy and John Paul and trying to do ... some new material and some writing. I don't know what it will be, but it will be something. At the moment, all I know is I have the great pleasure to go and jam with the two guys and start work on some material. When I get there, I never ask any questions. If I get a phone call to go and play, I enjoy every moment of it. Whatever it ends up as, to ever get a chance to jam with two people like that, it is a phenomenal thing for me. It's my life. It's what I've dreamed about doing."
He said it's still too early to tell what will become of these "jam" sessions, but admitted that the "possibility of doing something is in the cards. I really felt it was in the cards from the moment we walked offstage at the O2." Bonham also explained that, before there could be a Led Zep LP, "lots of politics [would need to] get ironed out," but added that recording with Zep is "something I've always wanted to do."
Bonham noticeably didn't mention frontman Plant's name during the discussion. A spokesperson for Page's management had no comment on the matter, and a spokesperson for Jones' management could not be reached by press time.

Lady Gaga's Rally To Feature Testimonial From Discharged Marine

'I got the chance to meet her in D.C., and she genuinely cared about the issue,' former Marine Danny Hernandez says of Gaga.By Kyle Anderson

Lady Gaga with her military friends on the VMA red carpet

Photo: Getty Images

Since she first broke into the mainstream two years ago, Lady Gaga has used her fame to bring gay rights issues to the forefront. In the past few weeks, she has focused squarely on the repeal of the U.S. military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, including bringing several casualties of the law to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles and recording a video that encourages her fans to contact their senators to oppose the policy. On Monday (September 20), Gaga will host a rally in Portland, Maine, organized by the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN), in an effort to get the two senators from the state — Republicans Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins — to vote to break a filibuster and repeal the DADT policy in Tuesday's procedural vote in Washington, D.C.

Those gathered at the rally will also hear testimonial from Danny Hernandez, a former Marine who was discharged from the military for "don't ask, don't tell" violations. "I was in the Marine Corps and was under investigation for violating 'don't ask, don't tell,' and I ended up working with SLDN in Washington," Hernandez explained to MTV News in a Skype interview from Portland. "They represented me, and it was through them I began working for them and getting involved with Lady Gaga."
Hernandez first got the opportunity to meet the singer a few weeks ago after a concert in Washington. "I was a little skeptical at first," Hernandez said of Gaga's involvement with the cause. "I love her music but wouldn't consider myself a Little Monster. I got the chance to meet her in D.C., and she genuinely cared about the issue. It was then I realized that she's serious about this issue and getting the word out."
Though Hernandez was a victim of a "don't ask, don't tell" discharge — one among 14,000 similar cases — he hasn't let that get in the way of his dream of service. "I've been wanting to serve in the military for as long as I can remember," he said. "My brother, my cousins — everybody is in the Marine Corps. It's a family thing. To have been discharged was one of the worst things to ever happen to me, but that's why I'm a part of this cause. And it's meaningful to the people around me as well as the people still serving in silence. But I'd like to get back into the military as soon as possible."
The procedural vote — which would merely clear the bill (which has already been approved by the House of Representatives) for discussion on the Senate floor — is scheduled to occur on Tuesday afternoon.
What do you think of Lady Gaga's involvement with trying to repeal "don't ask, don't tell"? Let us know in the comments.

Rep confirms Followill's engagement to Lily Aldridge, who appeared in the band's 'Use Somebody' video.By Jocelyn Vena

It's a sad day for the female fans of Kings Of Leon. Lead singer Caleb Followill is officially one step closer to being a married man. It seems he put a ring on it when he asked his girlfriend of two years, Lily Aldridge, to marry him.
His rep confirmed the engagement to People.com. Aldridge appeared in the band's "Use Somebody" music video. Followill is the latest Kings of Leon member to make plans to get hitched. Bandmate Nathan Followill got married last November to singer Jessie Baylin in an outdoor ceremony in Brentwood, Tennessee.
While it appears that Caleb has been relatively mum about his love life, Nathan has been candid about the band's less-than-discerning views on love prior to their committed relationships. "I think it definitely prepared us for this. I mean, I don't think just anyone could handle being away from home for 10 months out of the year, but you know, it kind of helped us not to attach ourselves to a certain place for too long because we knew we were going to have to up and leave. So early on in our career it was perfect for the guiltless sex with the groupies, but now that we all have relationships, it's a little tough," he said, according to AZCentral.com.
Before Caleb and his fiancée make it official, however, the guys plan to release their next album, Come Around Sundown, which is set to drop on October 19. The album has 13 tracks, several of which have been road-tested by the band during their summer tour. In keeping with tradition, the new Kings of Leon tunes combine bluesy, hard-rocking sensibilities with just the right amount of Americana twang (especially "Mary," which has quickly become a live staple). The new single "Radioactive" is a fantastically kinetic up-tempo rocker that features a giant sing-along chorus.
Share your well-wishes for Caleb and Lily in the comments!

'Easy A' Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know!

We've been tracking Emma Stone's teen comedy since its freshman year.By Kara Warner

Emma Stone in "Easy A"

Photo: Sony Pictures

For people who love movies, and we at MTV News certainly do, 2010's box-office offerings have been a little inconsistent. Nevertheless, if you've been passing up the mediocrity in anticipation of something worth your time and hard-earned dollars, "Easy A" is your reason to get back to the theater. Yes, we've gushed a bit about it all week, but it is that good.
Nice girl/ semi-outsider Olive (Stone) makes a deal with a guy friend to pretend to have loud, crazy sex at a house party so the bullies at their high school will think he's "cool" and leave him alone. But that one good-natured act soon spirals into many more "requests" from other similarly plagued students. Soon the high school rumor mill has been set ablaze with exaggerated accounts of Olive's alleged exploits.

And it's finally in theaters! To celebrate the well-made and well-acted teen comedy that is "Easy A," here is everything you need to know!
When Emma Stone, a much-loved scene-stealer in films like "Superbad" and "The House Bunny," was announced in her first big starring role back in March 2009, fans were already excited about the project.
Days before production began in June 2009, we learned which actors would fill out the hilarious supporting roles: Penn Badgley, Cam Gigandet, Stanley Tucci, Lisa Kudrow and more.
Shortly thereafter, we caught up with "Twilight" hunk Gigandet to hear about his role in the film. "I'm one of those characters who you think is one person, where he turns out to not be," Gigandet said.
Finally, almost a full year later, in May, we got our first look at the talented cast in action, courtesy of the . This only solidified our interest in the film.
In late July, we stole a few moments with director Will Gluck, who heaped praise on Stone as a leading lady, as well as the rest of his talented cast.
That was followed by our first exclusive clip, which is coincidentally one of the funniest sequences in the film. Stone's quote/narration over the scene speaks for itself: "If people thought I was a dirty skank, fine. I'd be the dirtiest skank they'd ever seen."
And just recently, we sat down with the film's stars to discuss the many quirks and charms of the film. Badgley dished on the most amusing rumor he'd heard about himself, and Stone revealed how filming a fake sex scene induced an asthma attack.
Earlier this week, it was finally time for the film's premiere, where Stone and her co-stars shined, along with several other fashion-forward stars, including Taylor Swift and Keke Palmer.
Check out everything we've got on "Easy A."

T.I.'s Arrest Companion Identified As Convicted Felon

Tip may have further violated probation by driving with Cortez 'C-Rod' Thomas, who was also in on rapper's 2007 attempt to purchase illegal firearms.By Jayson Rodriguez

T.I. might be in more trouble with the law than originally believed.
According to reports, T.I. was accompanied by a convicted felon when he was pulled over and arrested in Los Angeles on September 1. It's a strict no-no for convicted felons — Tip is also a felon — to associate with each other.
Now, documents uncovered by TheSmokingGun.com reveal that the felon was reportedly Cortez "C-Rod" Thomas, the man who allegedly helped facilitate T.I.'s attempted illegal firearm purchase in October 2007, which led to the Atlanta MC's most recent prison stint and subsequent probation.
Thomas, according to records, allegedly assisted T.I. (born Clifford Harris) by transferring a wealth of cash to the rapper's bodyguard. The bodyguard was later set up by federal officials and agreed to participate in a sting against the "Takers" star.
Thomas was never charged in the incident, but he is named and information regarding his past is included in material related to T.I.'s original case. Thomas' rap sheet includes drug charges and claims of physical intimidation; earlier this year, he was convicted on felony drugs and weapon charges and received 15 years probation.
The new information adds to the case being mounted against T.I. In addition to the controlled substances found in his car — later identified as Ecstasy, marijuana — the rapper may have also had the opiate codeine in his system, according to TMZ.
The Atlanta judge who oversaw T.I.'s gun case and structured an experimental plea deal with him has ordered the rapper to appear in court to explain his actions and make a case for why his behavior doesn't violate the terms of his probation.
"We are very disappointed in Mr. Harris' recent conduct," United States Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said in an e-mail to MTV News on Friday (September 17). "We will make our sentencing recommendation at the revocation hearing."
A hearing date for T.I. had not been scheduled at press time.

We separate the A-list good guys from the bad in Ben Affleck's gritty Boston heist flick. By Kara Warner

Ben Affleck in "The Town"

Photo: Warner Bros.

Before you set out to the multiplex to see this week's gritty bank-heist flick "The Town," MTV News has you covered with an insider-y look at Ben Affleck's latest directorial effort, following his critically praised work on "Gone Baby Gone."

Based on Chuck Hogan's novel "Prince of Thieves," the story revolves around the relationship between bank manager Claire Keesey (Rebecca Hall) and the career criminal who "stole more than her heart," Doug McCray (Affleck). Rounding out the triangle is FBI agent Adam Frawley (Jon Hamm), who is determined to bring Affleck's crook and his gang to justice.
From the announcement of the star-studded cast to a glimpse at how the city of Boston embraced the production, here's everything you need to know about "The Town."
The A-list cast was announced in July 2009, first with news of the addition of Hall and "Mad Men" hunk Hamm, followed by "Gossip Girl" ingénue Blake Lively and, finally, "Hurt Locker" star Jeremy Renner.
Production began in Boston that September, and the celebrity cast quickly became the talk of Beantown, with the paparazzi shots to prove it. Photographers popped up, in particular, when filming was under way in public places.
Once shooting wrapped, so did any news about "The Town," until nine months later when the first trailer dropped. Shortly thereafter, Affleck's much-buzzed about film was announced as part of the esteemed lineup for the 2010 Toronto Film Festival.
MTV News was lucky enough to attend the fest, where we sat down with a few of the castmembers. We couldn't help but veer slightly off-topic, since all of the stars had a slew of highly anticipated projects on the way, including Ben Affleck's "The Trade," Jeremy Renner in "The Avengers" and Blake Lively in "Green Lantern."
As for Lively, she nimbly dodged our challenge Ben Affleck-vs.-Matt Damon.
Will you go see "The Town"? Among the cast, whose projects are you most excited about?

Lady Gaga Meat Dress Designer Tells How To Re-Create His VMA Look

Franc Fernandez says Gaga thought the dress 'smelled good.'By Jocelyn Vena

Lady Gaga at the VMAs on Sunday

Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images

Did you watch Sunday night's VMAs and wonder how you too can re-create the Franc Fernandez-designed Lady Gaga meat dress? Well, wonder no more. MTV News caught up with the now-infamous designer and he very simply explained how one makes a dress made entirely of meat.

"Go to your butcher, get some good cuts and start sewing," he said about Gaga's getup, which was her third look of VMA night. Before her fashions got meaty, the singer wore two gowns — one designed by the late Alexander McQueen and one by Giorgio Armani. However, those ultra-glam garbs were overshadowed by Fernandez's over-the-top look.
"I was approached by [fellow fashion stylist] Nicola Formichetti to create the look. It was planned over a week period," Fernandez explained about how the dress came to fruition. "It's always a pleasure working with Nicola and Gaga, the times I have. The process is very easy and quick."
While the process may have been "easy and quick," Gaga did have to wear the dress for an extended period of time. "She wore it for as long as it was seen on TV, with some additional press photos and for the 'Ellen' show," he explained, adding that he wasn't at all worried about the meat spoiling.
"There's been a big debate of whether it smelled or rotted under the lights," he said. "Gaga herself said it smelled good, because it smelled like meat. I chose the right cuts to make sure the dress kept well."
What's next for Fernandez, who also lent his talents to Gaga and Beyoncé's "Telephone" video? "I'm working on a few different projects with some great creative friends," he teased.
While the creative designer has some projects lined up, fans might be wondering what is next for the dress itself. Well, he explained its fate to the MTV Style blog. "The dress will be put in an archive with all of her dresses. The Gaga Archives, I suppose. It won't last, that's the beauty of it. When it is brought out again, hopefully it will be in a retrospective, and it will be a different dress, which is the best thing. I like the idea of it changing and evolving into something else," he explained. "My butcher said I could taxidermy it if I wanted it to stay the way it is, and I didn't want it to stay that way. Seems like a waste to keep it that way, than to watch it change."
The Moonmen have all been handed out and the stars have gone home, but there's plenty of 2010 MTV Video Music Awards news, interviews, behind-the-scenes scoop, party reports and more still to come, so keep it locked on MTVNews.com.

Lady Gaga Vs. Eminem At VMAs: Ke$ha Weighs In

'I have mad respect for both of them,' Best New Artist nominee says.By Kara Warner

Ke$ha

Photo: MTV News

The buzz around our MTV Video Music Awards has hit a fever pitch, with just four more days until the biggest stars in music descend on the Nokia Theatre for a night of major performances, special guest appearances and plenty of unplanned surprises.

When we caught up with spunky Best New Artist nominee Ke$ha -- who is also up for a Best Collaboration Moonman with 3OH!3 for their peppy clip for "My First Kiss" -- she seemed eager to just attend the festivities.
"I don't even think I'm invited," she joked (we think).
When asked what her plans are for the show, she suggested some slightly over-the-top pranks -- and that she might lose control of certain bodily functions. "I might throw water balloons at people," she said. "I might pee myself just thinking about it."
Regarding her take on the evening's biggest prize, Video of the Year, the "Tik Tok" singer was torn between VMA-nomination dominators Lady Gaga and Eminem.
"I have mad respect for both of them, so I can't really say who I'd pick," she said. "I think that Eminem is really amazing, because he's so honest and I really connect with brutally honest people and artists. And then Gaga's whole thing is incredible too. I can't really say who I hope would win, but I'd like to see what's going to happen."
Who do you think will win? Lady Gaga or Eminem? Share your thoughts in the comments!
The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The party starts with MTV News' VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for Best New Artist from now through Sunday.

Usher Remembers Being A 'Pizza Face' On 'When I Was 17'

'I had really, really bad acne ' he admits in Saturday's episode. By Mawuse Ziegbe

Usher on "When I Was 17"

Photo: MTV News

He's known as one of the smoothest R&B sensations to grace the stage, but when Usher was 17, he grappled with a far less flattering image.
"I went through this phase where I had really, really bad acne," the singer admits on the latest episode of "When I Was 17," premiering Saturday at 11 a.m. Usher, who was 17 in 1995, reveals with a grin that his nickname was "Pizza Face."

"His acne was so horrible," recalled one of Usher's more blunt friends, Keith. "His face was so jacked up."
Music mogul and producer Jermaine Dupri remembered how the entertainer's spotty complexion led him to shy away from the spotlight.
"He didn't want to go out. He wanted to stay in," Dupri says. "He was a little ashamed of what was going on with his face."
The singer went to extreme, and ultimately unsuccessful, lengths to disguise his breakouts.
"As a dude, you're not gonna put makeup on your face, right?" Usher said. "I tried that, it didn't even work."
He may have experimented with cosmetics and spent a few more nights at home but the multiplatinum star didn't let his acne hold him back from wooing the ladies. "I was 17, so I would still try to talk to girls [and] get past it," Usher reasoned.
He even had some smooth lines to drop when he wanted to draw attention away from his skin. " 'Don't look at that, look at my eyes, baby. I'm trying to say something real serious to you right here,' " Usher recalled, reenacting his complexion-deflecting dating moves. "I know I have pizza face, I don't care."
In the end, his skin cleared up and the singer said it was just a matter of riding out a rite passage that many teens are forced to endure.
"This is something that all 17-year-olds have to deal with," Usher said. "You can't run away from it."
— this week featuring B.o.B, Usher and Ne-Yo — premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV

Unreleased Michael Jackson Music On The Way, Rodney Jerkins Says

'It's definitely going to come, but it takes time,' says producer, who worked with King of Pop on Invincible.By James Dinh

Michael Jackson

Photo: Time Life Pictures/DMI/Time Life Pictures/Getty Im

Michael Jackson had a wealth of unreleased songs in the vaults at the time of his death last year, but very little has since seen the light of day. Producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, who worked with the King of Pop on his 2001 album Invincible, revealed that he is about to work on a project with unreleased material from Jackson.
"I'm about to work on an unreleased project that we're talking about doing right now," Darkchild revealed in a chat with VladTV. "It's definitely going to come, but it takes time. You got to do a lot of the red tape but there's definitely going to be an unreleased Michael Jackson [album]. There's definitely going to be stuff to come and hopefully I'll be a part of that."
Darkchild later spoke about how working with the entertainer had always been a childhood dream of his.
"It was a blessing. It was definitely a goal of mine as a kid. When I first wanted to be producer, at 11 years old, on a little piece of paper [I] was like, 'One day I wanna work with Michael Jackson.' I just believe that God granted my wish," he said. "I had the chance to work with him. We became friends. Of course, we miss him dearly. He was truly the greatest."
Last year, former Sony Music boss Tommy Mottola revealed to Time magazine that unpublished Jackson music could date back decades. "Let's say 12 or 13 songs end up on the album; Michael could have possibly recorded 15, 20 or 30 songs," Mottola explained. "This would probably go for every album he recorded and probably predating [Sony] to his Motown days."
Jackson was reportedly working on a comeback album at the time of his death with contemporary R&B producers like Akon, Ne-Yo and Will.I.Am. He was also in talks to hit the studio with everybody from Kanye West to T-Pain to Chris Brown.
Based on a recent report from Reuters, more music from Jackson would only further increase music sales for the singer. The entertainer's music has raked in $430 million in sales since June 2009.
An album wasn't the only unfinished project Jackson had on his plate at the time of his death last June. The King of Pop had asked then-newcomer Lady Gaga to open his This Is It shows in London. "I guess I can speak about it now. I was actually asked to open for Michael on his tour. We were going to open for him at the O2," she revealed earlier this year.
Would you be excited to hear unreleased music from the King of Pop? Tell us your thoughts below!

US Open

I went to the US Open yesterday. It was quite an experience and something I'll never forget. It's like a bucket list thing, you know? And I got to watch both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer play, two of the best players ever.

I took tennis lessons as a kid and then again in college, but I'm not a player. But I knew enough to follow along and the matches were really great. Plus, my friend Lacy and I made the jumbotron! Woot woot!

The US Open takes place in the Arthur Ashe Stadium at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, which is a complex consisting of a bunch of smaller courts, two midsize ones, and one big one (which is the Arthur Ashe Stadium.) It looks like this:
So while the Men's Singles Semi-Finals were going on in the Arthur Ashe Stadium (which is what I got to see), junior matches were being played on some of the smaller courts.
Of the two matches I saw, Nadal won and Federer lost. I was a little bummed out by that because I like Federer, but the guy who beat him, Novak Djokovic from Serbia, was so excited and it's always nice to see an underdog win. Here he is right after he won yesterday:

And here's a photo of him hitting himself in the head yesterday after losing the third round.

Tennis can be pretty brutal. But anyway, it's really cool because the whole stadium gets really quiet when they play. You can hear their sneakers squeak on the court, you can hear the ball bouncing and hitting the racket, you can hear the players grunt... Our seats were pretty far up but we could still hear every single thing happening. But, man, was it a long day. We watched tennis for eight hours straight.
The final match is this afternoon but I haven's decided who I'm rooting for yet. I like Novak because, even though he's competed in the US Open before (he lost to Federer in 2007), he only has one Grand Slam title and he's clearly the underdog of the match. Plus, he's supposed to be really funny and I like a person with a sense of humor. But I also like Nadal because, even though he's currently ranked number one and holds eight Grand Slam titles, he's never competed in or won the US Open before. If he wins today, he will have a Career Grand Slam.
For those of you who don't know, there are four major "Grand Slam" tennis tournaments every year:

Australian Open - Played on concrete
French Open - Played on clay
Wimbledon - Played on grass
US Open - Played on concrete

Winning any one of these gives you a Grand Slam title. If you win all four at least once during your career, you have a "Career Grand Slam." Federer has won 16 titles and has a Career Grand Slam. Nadal has won eight titles, but never the US Open, so he doesn't have a Career Grand Slam. Novak has won one title.
(Btw, I never thought I'd be giving a sports lesson of any kind on this blog.)
Anywho, 2010 has been a great year for me. First my movie gets made, then I get to go to the US Open... The fact that I'm lucky is not lost on me. I'm so grateful for everything.
